Spring into Healthy Habits

Cold and flu season may be finally coming to a close, but that does not mean kids are done transferring germs. Germs can be found inside and outside the home, no matter the season, which is why incorporating healthy habits into your family’s yearlong routine can help create a healthy home.

With a few simple and fun activities this spring, you can help set your children up for a successful and healthy summer.

Scrub Down

As springtime begins, it is time to give our homes a deep clean to get rid of the germs, dust and grime that may have accumulated on surfaces over the winter months. In addition to cleaning, make sure you disinfect with products like Lysol Disinfecting Wipes to kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on commonly touched surfaces like light switches, doorknobs and refrigerator handles.

Wash Up

Remind kids to wash their hands often, especially after playing outside, going to the bathroom or coughing or sneezing. Teach them to wash their hands for a full 20 seconds by having them sing the “Happy Birthday Song” twice from beginning to end. Encouraging frequent and proper hand washing etiquette at home reinforces these habits in the classroom and encourages their peers to adopt them as well.

Eat Fresh

Demonstrate to kids the importance of eating fresh fruit and vegetables by getting the entire family involved. Start a small family garden and use your produce or herbs to prepare salad, roasted vegetables, or fruit salad to go along with lunch or dinner. Showing how and eating balanced meals with kids will teach them far more than just telling them it’s important.

Clean Classrooms

While the school year is coming to an end, a new year is just around the corner and teachers will soon start preparing their back to school supply lists. Encourage teachers to add Lysol Disinfecting Wipes, which kill 99.9% of bacteria and viruses on commonly touched surfaces and are now eligible for Box Tops redemption, to promote healthy habits and support schools across the United States, one clean surface at a time.
