5 Healthy Habits for the Holiday Season

By Lysol

After a holiday season that was anything but usual last year, Lysol and National PTA are very much looking forward to the special moments to come this time of the year!

However, it’s important to remember the holiday months are also the start of the cold and flu season. With many people planning to celebrate with friends and family, make sure practicing healthy habits remains top of mind as we near holiday and winter festivities. Keep the following tips in mind to help make your family’s holiday celebrations as safe as possible.

Get Your Flu Vaccination

One of the best ways to help slow the spread of seasonal, germ-causing illnesses is to receive your immunizations, like the flu shot. The CDC recommends anyone above the age of six months receive a flu shot every year.

Serve Balanced Meals

We know the holidays are a time when food is front and center. When crafting the menu for your family and friends, be sure to include fruits, vegetables and proteins in your mealtime selections. Maintaining the fundamental pillars of a balanced diet will help you and your loved ones enjoy those holiday indulgences with a good conscience!

Wash Your Hands

When traveling, visiting family and friends, or preparing for a gathering at your own house, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly and often. Taking the recommended 20 seconds will go a long way towards helping to prevent the spread of illness-causing germs throughout all of your winter adventures.

Disinfect High-Touch Surfaces

Lysol Disinfecting Wipes make it easy to clean and disinfect surfaces at home. Disinfect frequently touched areas from kitchen counters to door handles to help protect you and your family from the spread of germs. Make sure to rinse all food contact surfaces with water afterward.

Support the Kinsa FLUency Program

Encourage your child’s school to apply for the Kinsa FLUency program, an early detection program for illness in schools across the country, sponsored by Lysol! While cold and flu infections begin to peak during the holiday season, participating schools will receive free Lysol Disinfecting Wipes and Kinsa smart thermometers courtesy of Lysol that help notify school nurses and officials—as well as parents—of illness levels and trends within the school community.
