Know when to wash your hands at school

Parents can play a role in keeping your school community healthy.

Together, parents and teachers play a pivotal role in children’s health and education. Schools are an extension of the home; they are not just institutions for education, but a place where our children learn the foundation for many life lessons. During cold and flu season, parents and teachers need to work together and promote healthy habits to help curb the spread of illness-causing germs.

While educators are busy keeping the classroom clean, on top of their everyday curriculum, parents can help share resources to support the fight against illness-causing germs. That can include making sure they have the essential supplies, as well as activities and visual aids and resources to guide students’ behaviors.

Re-Stock Important School Supplies

You might be thinking, “Didn’t we just go back-to-school shopping?” You likely did; however, the trials and tribulations of cold and flu season can result in classrooms quickly running out of a lot of those essentials. Take a moment to check in with your teachers to see if they need more tissues or other cleaning supplies, like Lysol Disinfecting Wipes. While you’re at, make sure to stock up your home, too!

Celebrate Proper Handwashing

October 15 is Global Handwashing Day! While it’s vital to teach your children about proper handwashing all year, it’s especially important during cold and flu season. Make sure your educators know about Global Handwashing Day and encourage them to celebrate with the students. The CDC offers more information on handwashing best practices, as well as downloadable Global Handwashing Day posters.

Make Healthy Habits Education Fun

Lysol knows little hands learn best when they’re hands-on. That’s why they’re teaming up with The GIANT Room to provide free resources online for elementary educators to teach kids about germ transmission and healthy habits.

Created using firsthand insights and learnings from teachers and students, these materials are tailored to help students in elementary school better understand how to stay healthy through fun and interactive lessons.

Encourage your child’s teachers to take advantage of Lysol’s free resources to support your students’ learning both inside and outside of the classroom.

Cold and flu season can be a daunting time for many, but we hope these resources will help prepare your child’s school and make it a little more fun for the students.
