Earth Day Craft: DIY “Tiny Earth” Seed Balls

Looking for a simple, meaningful way to celebrate Earth Day? Turn old homework into something that gives back to the planet—adorable seed balls that look like tiny Earths and bloom into beautiful flowers.

This eco-friendly craft is perfect for classrooms, families, or anyone who wants to reuse materials and plant a little joy.

✂️ What You’ll Need

  • 1 old homework sheet (any used paper works!)
  • 1 piece of blue paper
  • 1 piece of green paper
  • Seeds (wildflowers work best, but sunflower seeds are fun too)
  • Water
  • Two bowls

🌱 How to Make Your Tiny Earths

  1. Tear the paper. Rip all your paper (homework, blue, and green) into small pieces.
  2. Sort your colors. Put the blue pieces in one bowl and green pieces in another. Divide the old homework pieces between both bowls.
  3. Soak. Cover the paper with water and let it soak for about 20 minutes.
  4. Drain & squeeze. Pour off extra water, then squeeze the paper to remove as much moisture as possible.
  5. Add seeds. Mix seeds into each bowl. Wildflowers are great for pollinators, while sunflowers add a fun surprise.
  6. Shape your Earths. Take small amounts of the blue and green mixtures and press them together into a ball—your “Tiny Earth.” Gently squeeze to shape and remove excess water.
  7. Let them dry. Set aside for 24 hours—one full spin of Earth—until firm.

🌼 Share or Plant

Give your Tiny Earth seed balls to friends, students, or family as a thoughtful Earth Day gift—or plant them yourself and watch them grow into vibrant blooms.

💚 Why It Matters

This craft is more than just fun—it’s a small act of sustainability. You’re reusing paper, supporting pollinators, and creating something that continues to grow long after Earth Day is over.

Because even the smallest Earth can make a big impact.
