How parents – and Lysol – can help curb the spread of germs

Every parent goes into protection mode to help their family avoid the cold and flu, especially after the winter recess when cold and flu season is at its peak.

It is important for students to keep up their academic morale for a smooth return to learning this new year.  Ensure families, schools and communities are reinforcing healthy habits to help to promote the physical and mental health needs of children, such as germ mitigation, good nutrition, physical activity and counseling.

Lysol and National PTA are proud to partner together to share some healthy habits tips and resources for parents and teachers to utilize with the broader school community:

  1. Encourage vaccine education. One of the best ways to help slow the spread of seasonal, illness-causing germs is to receive immunizations, like the flu shot. The CDC recommends anyone above the age of six months receive a flu vaccine every year.[1]
  2. Refresh your school’s healthy habits education. Teaching students about healthy habits in a fun and engaging manner, both in the classroom and at home, can help lead to practice and repetition! Teachers and parents can download a variety of lesson plans, posters and activities on proper handwashing techniques, covering coughs and sneezes and so much more through the Lysol Here for Healthy School program.
  3. Stay home when sick. We know pulling your children out of school may be difficult, especially if they were just home for winter break. However, if they are exhibiting any sign of illness, keep them home from school so they can avoid spreading germs to others. Especially in the midst of cold and flu season, being more cautious will not just benefit your child, but their fellow students.[2]
  4. Apply for free Lysol Disinfecting Wipes at school. Disinfecting commonly-touched surfaces helps to reduce the spread of germs, including those that may cause cold and flu. Donating disinfecting wipes to your child’s school is also a great way to help curb the spread of germs in the classroom. This year, refer your school district to apply for free Lysol Disinfecting Wipes by visiting Frontline Impact Project.
